Deep Water Walking/RunningIf walking or running is too painful out of the water, then try the gentle but effective use of water resistance. Also combined with toning and flexibility exercises. One must be comfortable in deep water.
Charlevoix Masters Swim TeamThe Charlevoix Masters is a year-round adult swim team for the young at heart. Any adult, 19 years of age and up, is eligible to join at any time of the year. Varying levels of competition are available to provide a challenge for everyone. The workouts are designed with the beginner, intermediate and advanced swimmer in mind. Weekday practices are facilitated by the coach, with personal attention to strokes and techniques. Practice sessions not only offer a physical challenge, but an opportunity to work out with peers and friends who share common interests of camaraderie and motivation, goal-setting, and training in a supportive environment for personal success. Masters Swim Team runs September - May
S.C.U.B.A. ClassesStudents will obtain skills in snorkeling, buoyancy control, proper breathing patterns. This is a complete diving course from the use of masks to open water dives with tanks. Tuesdays & Saturdays starting mid-January. Call the pool for more information. Water Polo Drop in play on the 2nd and 4th Monday’s of each month, from 8:00 - 9:30pm if there is sufficient interest. Cost is $3.00 for Recreational Authority District residents, $3.50 for non-residents, and you must be at least 16 year of age. Lifeguard Training ClassesStudents must be 15 years of age and successfully complete the following skills. Swim 300 yards continuously using these strokes in the following order: 100 yards front crawl using rhythmic breathing, 100 yards breaststroke, 100 yards either front crawl or breaststroke. Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10ft, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to the surface, and swim 20 yards back to the starting point. Cost $150 for residents of Charlevoix Township, Hayes Township and the City of Charlevoix, $160 for non-residents. (includes all materials)
Water Safety Instructor Classes- INTEREST LIST AT THE FRONT DESK This course is for those interested in teaching swimming. You must be 16 years of age prior to the first day of class. ($150 includes materials.) Junior Lifeguarding ClassesWe are looking for interested young people to participate in the Junior Lifeguarding program. You must be at least 10 years old and be willing to work hard in exchange for some fun free swim time. Students will be introduced to safety skills including ring toss, reach and throw rescues and pool rules. Students will also learn how to perform a chemical test on the pool. Upon completion students will be able to volunteer at the pool as a Jr. Lifeguard and receive an official Jr. Lifeguard T-Shirt. Call the pool at 231-547-0982.
Swim Lesson Instructor Aids We are looking for interested young people to participate in the Swim Instructor Aid Program. You must be at least 12 years of age and be willing to work hard in exchange for some fun free swim time. Students will be introduced to safety skills including ring toss, reach and throw rescues and pool rules. Students will also learn hands on how to assist a swim teacher with swim lessons. Students will help demonstrate skills and assist the teacher with the classes.
